How to Calculate the Days Between Two Dates
Find days, weeks and months between two dates, business days and common pitfalls.
We compare two dates to know how many days are left until a holiday, how long a contract runs or when an invoice is due.
The basic method
Convert both dates to a day count and subtract. The calculator does this automatically and shows days, weeks, months and years.
Counting the start day
Including or excluding the first and last day changes the result by one. 1 March to 10 March is normally 9 days; counting both ends makes it 10. Check which rule your contract uses.
Business days
Remove weekends (and public holidays) from the total. A rough estimate is total days ÷ 7 × 5.
The month trap
Months have 28 to 31 days, so “one month later” is not always 30 days. Counting calendar months is more accurate.
